Welcome to what was formerly the website for Hardcover Theater, a Minneapolis theater company that operated from 2002 to 2016. Now it’s a website memorializing what we accomplished and making our scripts available to other theater companies.
Hardcover’s mission was to create shows based on literature. Here are three quick reasons why somebody might want to produce one of our scripts:
- We specialized in working with texts that had never previously been adapted for the theater. (Examples: A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, She by H. Rider Haggard, Behind a Mask by Louisa May Alcott.)
- Our style was highly distinctive. Our shows didn’t look like anybody else’s shows. See here.
- We constructed our scripts so that they could be produced inexpensively, many on bare stages.

This website is maintained by Steve Schroer, Hardcover’s founder and producing artistic director. Steve wrote the great majority of Hardcover shows; shows that he didn’t write are not represented on the website because he doesn’t own the rights to them.
